The auction for the hanbok with the body scent of Jimin BTS has been canceled. The auction house makes a statement and explains why. Previously, auction house Myart Auction, as well as designer Kim Rieul, was heavily criticized for auctioning the stage outfit worn by BTS’s Jimin.
The costume in question is designer Kim Rieul’s beautiful traditional hanbok that was loaned to Jimin to perform on The Tonight Show. However, due to the rushing schedule, the stylist did not wash the clothes in time before returning them. The designer explained in a short documentary on VIDEOMUG: “The hanbok was worn by Jimin. I didn’t even wash it… These are clothes that still retain the sweat and scent of Jimin from that day. ”
After convincing, Myart Auction persuaded designer Kim Rieul to put the outfit at auction. The auction house even publicizes the product by declaring that it will be sold without washing it. “Jimin’s clothes after the show, left undiluted, will be sold with the intact body odor of Jimin” – according to auction house Myart.
However, this has made fans angry. After the auction house and the designer were severely criticized for this decision, on April 22, the auction of Jimin’s hanbok was canceled. “Designer Kim Rieul revealed that he felt a heavy burden from this auction because he felt it showed a more commercialized side. We (Myart) decided to cancel the auction after much consideration because the artist (Jimin) wearing this costume is world class and the auction could damage his image ”- declared Myart auction house’s father.
Although designer Kim Rieul took the product out of the Myart auction market, consumers can still check out his hanbok collection on the market. Myart Auction hopes that the public will still support designer Kim Rieul despite this decision, as their original motivation was to spread the beauty, culture and values of traditional Korean clothing.
