While South кσяєα, and particularly the KPOP industry, has always had a high power distance index, there are still times idols are treated like no other than trash by other celebrities regardless of their reputation and authority.
Whether such mistreatments stem from malicious intention, in all cases, the victims still suffer from long-lasting mental consequences.
Of course, celebrities are also human and thus, having days where one just wants to screw it all is inevitable, but there is still no good reason to treat others like ruввísh because of one’s own emotions.
Opening this video will be the case that has turned the Internet upside down in the past few months – the ill manner of Kim Jung Hyun towards SNSD’s Seohyun.
Though the three-year-old incident had caused a public uproar due to the ridiculous behavior of Kim Hyun Jung, things only truly exploded when the cause behind it was revealed by Dispatch.
Besides the dating rumours surrounding the actor in recent days and his severely violating the contract with the management agency, Kim Jung Hyun’s unprofessional manner and disrespectful behavior toward SNSD’s Seohyun was also dug up with new, shσcking details.
According to the staff of “Time,” throughout the process of film production, Kim Jung Hyun had always put on a grumpy face when interacting with Seohyun.
Because of the bad atmosphere between the main actor and actress, the staff also had lots of difficulties while working.
According to SBS Entertainment News, a core member of the film production team, stated that even though everything was clearly informed from the very beginning, Kim Jung Hyun still expressed his anger and discontent when having to film intimate scenes with Seohyun.
He even asked the script writer to minimize the amount of skinships for no good reason. Though the writer team was trying to be as supportive as possible, Kim Jung Hyun was still discontent and started to go overboard, always raising concerns about intimate scenes with Seohyun in all episodes as if he would d̾i̾e ̾ of a terrible d̾i̾s̾e̾a̾s̾e ̾ if interact with her.
As a result of his being ridiculously superior, Seohyun indeed had a nightmare when filming the drama. According to another member of the crew, things were so bad that she even cried on set.
At the studio, Kim Jung Hyun not only avoided eye-contact with Seohyun but he also ignored her greeting and always stayed in the car during break time.
His displeasure once reached its peak when in one scene, after Seohyun touched his hand, he immediately used wet tissue paper to clean that spot.
He didn’t even try to hide his rudeness and disgust for Seohyun. Of course, she burst into tears upon his action because who wouldn’t when being treated like a dangerous, contagious virus?
Having been an actor for so long – the occupation that requires one to act regardless of their emotion, he proved the opposite through this incident.
Though Kim Jung Hyun once sent an apology to Seohyun, it seemed like the management agency did that on his behalf because he still acted the same days after.
After that “wet tissue paper” thing, he publicly humiliated Seohyun one more time at the press conference on July 20,2018 where “Time” was premiered.
From the very first minutes, he had always put on that grumpy and annoyed face when interacting with Seohyun.
Even when she tried to cheer up the environment by asking to link arms with him, he blatantly refused as if she would tarnish his noble, superior image.
Many people also pointed out that not only in the couple photoshoot that Kim Jung Hyun would try to avoid Seohyun but he also did that in the group picture.
From the GIFs cut out from the conference, it’s obvious that he kept asking to switch positions and even ran around the stage just to not stand next to Seohyun.
the request wasn’t met, he stood beside Seo Hyun but in a distant and cold face.
Because of this behaviors, a chaos was created right on stage where not only his peers but also the producer were pushed into an awkward situation.
According to an exclusive article published on Hankyung on April 13, Kim Jung Hyun even turned down any kind of skinships with Seohyun in a 2018 photoshoot for Marie Claire – one of the most important promotional activities for their drama “Time.”
Explaining this whole thing, Dispatch revealed that Kim Jung Hyun was not the culprit; instead, it was his ex-girlfriend, Seo Ye Ji because she was the one to micromanage his actions and gaslight, manipulate his thoughts.
Though no involved parties made any statements about the rumour, it seemed like the whole story was true considering Seo Ye Ji’s absence at her latest film press conference.
For some reason, it’s quite rare to see female idols have an attitude with their male peers but the opposite case is quite common.
Prior to the case of Kim Jung Hyun and Seohyun, in 2017, netizens were once triggered to witness the disrespectful attitude of SanE toward Red Velvet’s Irene in one concert celebrating the twenty-five-year-old relationship between Vietnam and South кσяєα “Friendship Super Show.”
When Irene was greeting her fans, SanE suddenly put one arm on her shoulders and stuck out his tongue to tease Redveluvs.
Maybe he just did that with no clear intention but looking from the outside point of view, his action pretty much was saying that: “Look at me. You should be jealous because I can touch Irene and you guys can’t.”
When the situation happened, both Irene’s face and body were frozen since she couldn’t believe how a celebrity like SanE could pull such a weird act.
Though Irene was known for being quite uncomfortable around males, to keep the show going without awkwardness, she tried to hide her uncomfortableness by laughing it off.
One person expressed her discontent: “For those who want to know whether this is a flexing and arrogant act, just look at the reaction of Irene when he put his arm on her shoulders. Despite her being apparently annoyed, he only cared about how the aud̾i̾e ̾nce reacted. Do you think this is how a man of manners should act? If he did care about Irene, even just a little, he should have asked for her permission prior to touching her body.”
As if that was not controversial enough, SanE continued to be rude to Irene during his “Sour Gŕäṗệs” performance.
Here, he came to Irene and pointed fingers at her, singing the sensitive lines: “Look at her pictures! They turn all the guys up just like the SARS exploded in a developed country.”
Yes, he was mentioning ̾s̾e̾xual activities when pointing at Irene on stage.
His first actions was probably accepted to be a joke, but in the second case, it was obviously a ̾s̾e̾xual harαssment that even his fans couldn’t defend.
When the video was published online, SanE was harshly criticized by netizens.
While the type of mistreatment happening between celebrities of the same level is quite rare to see, when it comes to disrespectful behavior of seniors towards juniors, we can actually see a ton of them in KPOP.
In 2014, the early days where BTS had just made their debut, they had a chance to appear on Weekly Idol and on this first appearance on the show, Suga composed a rap to express his admiration for the 2 MCs Doni and Coni.
However, the pair not only showed their nonchalance toward Suga’s good will but they also even asked him not to play the song right when he was about to sing it.
As Suga still thought that Doni and Coni were teasing him, he tried to convince them to listen by saying that he literally stayed through the night to compose.
Again, he was turned down with the reason that there was a lot more to talk about and Suga’s music was not their favorite type despite having yet to know what the song was about.
If you have watched that episode, you would know how sad and disappointed Suga was just by the expression on his face.
Even in BTS’s two appearances at the show in 2015 and 2016, Suga was still poorly treated with the least screen time and ever since then, the group never appeared on the show anymore.
The personalities of Doni and Coni also begged lots of questions since after BTS got famous, their attitude toward the group, particularly Suga, changed 180 degrees.
Though Doni Coni were widely recognized for their MCing capabilities, there were multiple times where they blatantly showed their rudeness under the excuse of “getting closer to the idols.”
Three years ago, when MAMAMOO went on to Weekly Idol to promote their song “Starry Night,” the pair Doni Coni were believed to hold a clearly discriminated attitude towards women when asking Hwasa to close her legs while sitting.
However, since they were sitting with their legs wide open and simultaneously asked Hwasa not to do the same, it was clear how Doni Coni held on to the idea of the things men are allowed to do and not women.
As if that was not rude enough, they later picked up on the skin color of Hwasa.
When the script αssigned her to be a yellow flower, Doni Coni said that she looked more like a black rose, implying that she was too dark compared to the standard porcelain wḧïẗe skin of most female idols.
If that sole case was not enough to prove the discriminated attitude of Doni Coni, the time where they flagrantly criticised NATURE’s Saebom appearance may do.
When NATURE appeared on Idol Room, the MCs asked them about the most crucial thing to become an idol.
When Saebom answered: “Beauty,” the pair immediately slapped back: “Then you must have been eliminated,” implying that her appearance was not enough to be a celebrity.
Besides the case of Suga on Weekly Idol, Jungkook also faced a similar unpleasing circumstance when participating in Flower Crew.
Though he was pretty much a rookie and thus, needing lots of support from the seniors, MC Jo Se Ho took that as Jung Kook’s weak point to mistreat and disrespect him.
To show his good will, Jungkook bought a bag full of hamburgers to treat everyone at the show.
Much to his surprise, MC Jo Se Ho straightforwardly complained that the food would taste terrible because they were left-overs.
Though Jungkook explained that he actually bought them himself and the hamburgers were still new and hot, Jo Se Ho still refused to eat them.
To cover up his sadness and disappointment, Jungkook just awkwardly smiled at the camera and said: “They don’t want to take the hamburgers…”
Later, when actor Kim Min Suk and Yoo Byung Jae took the hamburger from Jungkook, Jo Se Ho continued to mock the maknae of BTS by saying: “Have you eaten them all yourself?”
Actor Minsuk sitting next by was also picked up on and talked to in a disrespectful manner by the MC: “Are you going to stuff all of that thing into your mouth?”
After the episode was aired, the public, especially fans of BTS, expressed their anger at the mindless actions of Jo Se Ho.
They just couldn’t understand why a senior had to be oddly superior to his junior like that.
Though the MC then went on to social media and apologized, netizens only reacted more fiercely to his action as he still defended the alleged rudeness by saying it stemmed from the good intention to be closer to the cast.
So, what reasons do you think these rude celebrities still have their job secured despite such ill manners and behaviors?
Are there any cases that you want to add onto the list?
